Ventolin is a medication used for the treatment of bronchospasm in adults (see "Bronchodilators Are Mainstream" under Product Description), acute and chronic cough, asthma, and rhinitis. In bronchial asthma, patients are exposed to an episode of wheezing and shortness of breath during or after exercise. The exact mechanism of action of Ventolin is unknown, but it is thought to occur through the action of a chemical called almotallide. This action is thought to occur through the antagonism of beta-1 adrenergic receptors, as well as by the enhancement of the effect of inhaled corticosteroids on beta-2 adrenergic receptors, and via the blockade of the effect of inhaled corticosteroids on the beta-1 adrenergic receptors.

SINGAPORE - Two of Singapore’s largest pharmacies will begin selling Ventolin inhalers after a public health advisory panel concluded Tuesday that they will not require consumers to give the brand name Ventolin inhaler in Singapore. The advisory panel, which was presented at a meeting of the Singapore Society of Gastroenterology, will review the information and recommendations of the advisory committee.
Sangnam, a leading pharmacy in the country, said it will “continue to educate patients about the benefits and risks associated with Ventolin inhaler use,” but added: “The advisory panel’s recommendation will be taken as a first recommendation to the public health system”.
In the advisory, the advisory committee will review the information presented by the advisory committee on Ventolin inhaler use and its risks for patients. The committee will recommend whether consumers should continue to take Ventolin inhaler.
In addition, the advisory committee will consider whether the medicine should be offered free to the public.

Ventolin is commonly prescribed as an aerosol inhalant administered through an inhaler. For most individuals, two inhalations should be taken every four to six hours. This usually comes out to about two inhalations four times a day. More frequent inhalations are not recommended.
To prevent exercise-induced bronchospasms, it is recommended that you take two inhalations of Ventolin fifteen minutes before physical activity.
The exact dosage and schedule will vary depending on the patient's age, body weight, and severity of the condition. Take the medication exactly as your doctor has instructed.
Do not increase your dosage or discontinue the use of Ventolin unless ordered to do so by your doctor. If you experience any adverse reactions, contact a health care provider. Your dosage may increase or decrease depending on your doctor’s orders.
You should store your medication in a closed container at room temperature, away from extreme heat, extreme cold, moisture, and direct light, and keep it out of the reach of children.
